Case Studies: Replacement Motorcycle Parts
Delivering Engineering Success
Brief:
To re-design and produce parts for the rear suspension on a motorcycle, this is to improve the rear suspension and ride
quality of the bike.
Result:
Rear suspension linkages for some imported motorcycles were unsatisfactory giving a poor ride quality.
All the linkage brackets/mounts and pivot joints had excessive play and were of bad quality.
Our development team set about re-designing the new parts that would work with all the existing bike components without
having to do any major work to the existing bike.
New bushes and linkage bolts were made to take out the play in all the suspension joints.
We designed all the new parts so
they could be manufactured and then later retrofitted to the bikes with little assembly
and workshop time, therefore keeping all machining and fitting costs low.
These turned parts were then programmed and manufactured on the Stonehill Engineering CNC equipment and fitted to the
bikes (a batch of 27 machines) much improving the suspension linkages and therefore the ride quality of the bike.
The result: successful re-design and development of the motorcycle components.
